Vans Joins Forces with Ghetto Film School to Amplify Voices of Emerging Storytellers

Three unique short films elevate the talents of aspiring filmmakers through the lens of “Off The Wall”

Ghetto Film School and Vans are proud to debut three short films dedicated to nurturing the talents of aspiring filmmakers. To fuel the creation of the short films, Vans donated $250,000 to Ghetto Film School in 2023 with the goal of uplifting the next generation’s voices and reinforcing the brand’s mission to empower everyone to live “Off The Wall.”

Over 100 passionate filmmakers from Ghetto Film School’s ROSTER submitted pitches for this project, with three talented GFS alumni filmmakers ultimately selected for the opportunity: Aidan Bae, Guinevere Alcaraz, and Alyse Arteaga. The chosen films represent the dynamic, youthful spirit of freedom, non-conformity, and relentless progression of Vans’ “Off The Wall” mentality, derived from the brand’s roots in skateboarding. The films include:

“Hustling” by Aidan Bae - Click Here
In this short film by multidisciplinary artist Aidan Bae, two teens show off their style as they hustle through a static city. Balancing a career as a filmmaker and painter, Aidan strives to create work that both entertains and enlightens.

“DIY” by Guinevere Alcaraz - Click Here
Filipino-American director, editor and producer Guinevere Alcaraz created “DIY,” a short film about a musician and artist who quit their jobs at a diner and pursue their creativity in the city of Los Angeles.

“You and Me, Me and You” by Alyse Arteaga - Click Here
Eager to escape from a dull lecture, four students travel through a vibrant daydream in “You and Me, Me and You.” Shot on 16mm film, the short is a playful tribute to Vans and a love letter to youth culture directed by Alyse Arteaga, a recognized producer and director from Los Angeles who creates films rooted in reflection, fantasy, and truth.
